### A Note Explaining Dry Versus Liquid Gallons

In the United States they have a series of dry units that include pints, quarts, gallons and bushels which are used in agriculture to measure the size of baskets containing berries, fruits and vegetables. For historical reasons a U.S.A. dry gallon does not have the same volume as a U.S.A. liquid gallon.

1 U.S. liquid gallon is exactly 3.785411784 litres.

1 U.S. dry gallon is exactly 4.40488377086 litres.

In the Imperial system of measurements inherited by Canada from Britain the volume of an Imperial gallon does not change whether used for dry measurements of basket sizes in agriculture or for liquid measurements.

1 Imperial gallon is exactly 4.54609 litres.
